TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON

The Algarve is one of Europe’s most sophisticated and successful destinations for tourists, golfers and property investors alike. With its year-round sunshine, beautiful beaches, glorious golf courses and myriad shopping and leisure facilities, it’s a great place for the whole family.

The region, which is the southern-most part of Portugal, stretches from the rugged Western coast some 160 kms to the Guadiana River which forms the frontier with Spain, and some 80 kms north from the coast to the more rugged hinterland. On the beach, white-gold sand is warm and silky soft. While inland the soil is rich, red and fertile. Fish fresh from the ocean and fruit fresh from the trees: local olive oil and local wine - here, everything has its rhythm and its time, reflected in the gentle lifestyle.

A BRIDGE ACROSS TIME

Capital of the increasingly-popular eastern Algarve, and just 30 minutes from Faro International Airport, Tavira is a cosmopolitan city with a rich history and a very bright future. Sandy islands, lovely golf courses and even the Ria Formosa Natural Park: this is the backdrop to what Tavira has in store.

The Romans had a thriving settlement here. Their bridge spanning the River Gilão which flows through the city of Tavira still stands strong. It was a Moorish capital too: samples of Moorish architecture can still be seen. From the castle battlements, look out over the unique tiled roofs to the many churches that tell of Tavira’s past glory. Once a major port for merchant trade with North Africa and for tuna fishing, today the city is known for its culture and character.

Within the city itself you can find a charming choice of small shops, bars and restaurants, and a lively nightlife based around music and the arts. Spain is a short drive across the beautiful bridge, providing the best of both worlds: Ayamonte is the pretty border town, while Huelva and Seville are both within very easy reach. Modern hotels are a sure sign of the city’s rising popularity, while the growing number of golf courses in the area attracts visitors and residents alike.

THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS

Here in Lux Tavira, there is a gentle approach to life, but pull back the curtains and you find a host of activities!

Nature predominates and here, the Ria Formosa Natural Park is a refuge for both resident and migrating birds. The delicate dunes and islands are wonderful for passing a long, lazy summer ’s day. Lawn green bowls, horse riding, deep-sea fishing, mountain biking and walking are just some of the activities in and around Tavira.

The Algarve’s first casino is close by at Monte Gordo, complete with gaming room and floor shows, while across the border in Spain, Seville offers all the attractions of a sophisticated city: shopping, culture, history – and of course the dancing and the tapas!

GREAT NAMES, GREAT GOLF

The eastern Algarve offers a great choice of top-class golf courses for those who seek quality, variety and sheer enjoyment from the game.

Unusually, the golf courses in the eastern Algarve are not flanked by residential properties, so golfers can enjoy the golfing experience to the full. Benamor, the first course in the area, is very popular. The ocean views from Quinta da Ria are stunning while its sister, Quinta da Cima, provides equally distracting countryside views. They were placed 1st and 3rd in the Peugeot Golf Guide for Portugal, and regularly host major events.

North of Vila Nova de Cacela, a short drive from Tavira, the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course has opened at Monte Rei, and the second is under way. This magnificent course bears all the signs of a great master and is a true challenge. Another maestro, Severiano Ballesteros, has designed the Signature Golf Course at Quinta do Vale, due to open before the end of 2007.
